121. How Do I Rename The Recycle Bin

NOTE

Before proceeding to edit the Registry be sure to make a backup copy. This can be achieved by using a third party freeware application called ERUNT.

1/ Click the Start button.

2/ From the Start menu click Run.

3/ In the Run dialogue box type: regedit.

4/ Click the + sign next to the registry hive HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.

5/ A very long list will now appear.

6/ Scroll down until you come CLSID and click the + sign next to that.

7/ Another long list of numbers will appear.

8/ Look for the following key: 645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E. You may find it easier to copy this number and then use the registry Find option to locate the relevant key.

9/ Once you have locate this key click the + sign next to this key to expand the menu.

10/ From the expanded menu click on the ShellFolder folder.

11/ In the right hand pane look for the word Attributes.

12/ Right click on Attributes and change the attribute data value from: 40 01 00 20 to 70 01 00 20 and press OK (Please Note: This attribute number is for Windows XP users only. For other versions change the attributes to 50 01 00 20).

13/ Now close the registry editor.

14/ The next step is to go to the desktop and Right click on the Recycle Bin icon and, from the drop down menu, click on Explore.

15/ Windows explorer will now open with the Recycle Bin highlighted.

16/ Now click the File option on the main Windows Explorer toolbar and select Rename.

17/ You can now rename the recycle bin.
