How Do I Keep My Internet Connection Open When Switching Users

By default using fast user switching to change users on XP prompts the user to disconnect their Internet or remote access connection. To maintain the connection, enabling all users to use the internet connection, requires a slight tweak of the registry.

WARNING: Before editing the registry be sure to make a back up copy. This can easily be done by using third party software such as ERUNT.

1/ Click Start

2/ From the Star Menu Click Run

3/ In the Run dialog box type: Regedit

4/ The registry editor will now open

5/ Navigate to the following key: HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

6/ In the right hand pane of Winlogon Right Click anywhere in the empty space

7/ from the drop down menu select New

8/Next select String value

9/ Give this new value a name such as : KeepRasConnection

10/ Double click on the new value name and in the Value data field type: 1

11/ Finally Exit the registry editor
