96. How Do I Use Windows/MSN Messenger With An Alternative Email Account To Hotmail/MSN

Hotmail has always been the favourite choice of email clients when it comes to logging into Windows/MSN messenger. But, contrary to popular belief, you are not restricted to using an Hotmail/MSN account. You can actually log onto Windows/MSN messenger using whatever email address you wish. The secret lies in having the right passport.
1/ Log on to http://register.passport.net
2/ Complete the registration details using the email address you want to use to log onto the messenger service, i.e., 'joebloggs@gmail.com'.
3/ In the Password dialogue box type in a suitable password.
4/ You have now registered your new email address with Passport.net.
5/ Passport will now send you an email which you must click on the link provided within the email to verify your new email address.
6/ Once verified you are up and running.
7/ If you would rather not wait for the confirmation email to be delivered to your inbox you can, if you wish, simply log onto the messenger service using the passport details you have just created.
8/ When you log on to messenger with your new passport you will be asked to verify your account.
9/ Just click on the verification pop-up and you will be taken to the messenger site where you will be bale to verify your email address.
10/ To make sure all of your contacts are aware of your new messenger email address, simply log onto messenger using your Hotmail email address.
11/ In the messenger window click on the Contact option on the main toolbar and, from the drop down menu, select Save Contact List.
12/ Save the Contact list to the My Document folder.
13/ Now close down messenger.
14/ Next Log In to messenger with your new passport email account.
15/ In the messenger window click Contacts on the main toolbar and, from the drop down menu, select Import Contacts from A file.
16/ Locate the contact file you saved in My Documents and click OK.
17/ Your Contact List will now be imported into messenger.
18/ The next time one of your contacts logs onto messenger he/she will be notified of your change of messenger email details and will be asked if he/she would like to add you to his/her contact list.
