95. How Do I Re-Install The Search Companion

Important Question! Can your PC Run Faster?

There are occasions when the search facility in Windows XP does not work correctly. In these circumstances it may be easier to simply re-install the search companion. To re-install follow these simply steps:

1/ Log on to your computer as Administrator.

2/ Click Start button.

3/ In the Start menu click Run.

4/ In the Run dialogue box type: %systemroot%\inf and click OK.

5/ In the list of files that appear look for the Srchasst.inf file.

6/ Right Click on this file and, from the drop down menu, select Install.

7/ The Search companion should now reinstall.

If the above does not fix the problem you might also try re-registering the jscript.dll, vscript.dll and urlmon.dll. To do this proceed as follows:

1/ Click the Start button.

2/ From the Start menu click Run.

3/ In the Run dialogue box type: regsvr32 jscript.dll and click OK.

4/ Click OK again.

5/ Follow steps 1 and 2 again.

6/ In the Run dialogue box type: regsvr32 vbscript.dll and click OK.

7/ Click OK.

If the problem is still not solved re-register the urlmon.dll file as follows:

1/ Click the Start button.

2/ From the Start menu click Run.

3/ In the Run dialogue box type: regsvr32 urlmon.dll and click OK.

4/ Click OK again.
