CleanCache 2.12

Important Question! Can your PC Run Faster?

System Requirements: Pentium Processor; Windows XP (with Windows.NET framework 1.1 or above)

CleanCache is one of those utilities that no self respecting pc should be without. Why? You ask. Well the simple answer is Security. We all go through the rather laborious chore of deleting cookies and temporary internet files and yet, even though we do this religiously, the details we have just deleted are still there. Hidden yes, but still there. Well to be honest they are stored in files called Index.dat which, frankly, are not easy little critters to delete. Well not unless you are using CleanCache.

So what does it do?

CleanCache does exactly what its name suggests. It cleans out cache's. To be exact it will clean out typed URL's; the contents of auto complete; recent document history; run history; search history; MRU registry entries; the Recycle bin; clipboard; Outlook Express outbox, delete and sent items and a host of other files.

CleanCache clears all of the selected caches' quickly and effortlessly, giving you peace of mind that information you don't want others to see is well and truely disposed of.

A clean sweep

CleanCache has a one step Clean up button accessed from the Status tab. One simple click completely eliminates all selected cache files. Of course, some files are constantly in use, for example, the Index.dat files, the Start Run and Search History files. In order for these files to be deleted it is necessary for CleanCache to reboot your pc. Fortunately, CleanCache can be set to execute its file clearing manually or, alternatively, at shutdown or startup, thus minimising disruption to your schedule.

The Tabs have it

The various tabs in CleanCache enable you to select the relevant areas of your system you wish to clean. In the main the Internet Explorer and Windows tab are perhaps the most important. Other sections such as cookies and typed URL's are included, giving the user the power to select individual cookies or typed URL's for either complete removal or safe keeping.

By default CleanCache removes all cookies and typed URL's unless instructed not to do so by the user. Therefore if you need a cookie or URL to remain on your system it is important to select the relevant cookie/URL via the relevant tab and move it over to the 'cookies/URL's that will be saved' section of the cookie or typed URL tab window.

Verdict

CleanCache really is a 'must have' application. However, before installing CleanCache do check that your PC has the latest version of the .NET Framework (version 1.1 and above) otherwise CleanCache will not work. The fact that it is freeware/donateware (the application is free for installation on 1 to 2 computers) is an added bonus. We all protect our pc's from viruses using anti virus software and a firewall, so why shouldn't we protect our web activity from prying eyes? You don't need to have something to hide before you use CleanCache it should be an instinctive part of your day to day security routine.
