Beginners Guide to Preventing PC Errors

exclamationTop Tip! Click Here To Check If Your Drivers Are Up-To-Date!

PC errors are as common as the morning sun. Each time there is a problem, we rush to call in technicians who charge us huge amounts of money. Knowing how to prevent these errors will go a long way in avoiding frustrating moments spent with your PC. Here are a few DIY tips.

Registry Fixes

Registry errors are one of the most common sources of PC errors, slowdowns and crashes. This is because the registry contains all important hardware and software settings, user preferences and system setup information required to keep your Windows PC functional. In other words, the registry is like the heart of your PC. With each PC operation, a large number of entries are added, removed and modified in the registry. In the process, several unwanted, outdated, and incorrect registry keys are accumulated within it. This causes damage to the registry, and generates errors on your PC. Ultimately, too many erroneous entries in the registry start generating various system errors, such as DLL errors, ActiveX errors, driver errors and runtime errors on your system.

To fix PC errors and prevent them, all you need to do is to install a reliable and efficient registry cleaner tool. A good registry cleaning tool makes it simple for you to perform a registry clean by automating the process of identifying and removing registry errors. By performing regular registry fixes, you will rarely encounter code errors or system corruption problems.

Reduce the Load On Hard Disk

An overloaded hard disk is one of the most common PC errors. Unwanted files, folders and applications constitute junk that occupies space on your hard disk, fills it up, slows it down, and eventually causes memory and no-disk errors.

The simplest thing to do is to free up disk space by following these simple steps:

Phase I

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Go to “Add or Remove Program.”
  3. Open “Currently Installed Programs;” remove all the applications you don’t need.

Phase II

  1. Open “Disk Cleanup” utility (Start Menu>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools)
  2. Compress old files, delete obsolete, downloaded and temporary internet files.

Phase III

  1. Via the same route you took for Disk Cleanup, open Disk Defragmenter.
  2. Defrag the hard disk. This is like spring-cleaning and normally takes time. Let it run.

These tasks, in addition to fixing errors, boost your PC’s performance by a large degree.

Remove Viruses, Malware, Install Firewall

Trojans, viruses and malware cause the majority of PC errors. They create a corrupt system by infiltrating via unsolicited email attachments, untrustworthy websites and open network connections. These malicious programs work by adding malicious files on your hard disk, adding incorrect entries to the registry, and infecting your program files. There are some types of malware programs that modify existing keys to change the way various files are handled by your PC. That is why, when you give certain commands, your PC malfunctions. In the most severe cases, they can even corrupt your system beyond repair.

To tackle this issue, you need to install reliable anti-virus and anti-spyware tools on your PC. Before doing this, you must ensure that you regularly update these tools with the latest definitions and periodically run full PC scans.

It is also very important that you install and configure a firewall on your PC. This is a security measure that will safeguard you from hackers or any program waiting to gain access to your PC and your personal information.

All the tips discussed above will work best if you are cautious about the kind of programs you access or download on your system. Again, having a back-up of all your important data is a must. As the old adage says, ‘prevention is better than cure.’
